Crusade Against Violence (C.A.V.)

C.A.V. is a non for profit organization
founded for the main purpose of providing legal aid and
assistance to victims of violent crimes.

Brief
History of CAV |
• |
In
August 21,1991 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati,
the late Atty. Romulo Villa formally launched Crusade
Against Violence (CAV). Its founding members are Vivian
and Anders Hultman, siblings Grace and Ellis Maguan and
Prosecutor Ernesto Bernabe. |
• |
CAV
started with 75 families in 1991 and to date active
membership totaled 616. The first advocacy work, under
the leadership of Anders Hultman as its first President,
was the re-establishment of the death penalty - It was
signed into law in 1993 and took effect 1994. |
• |
In
1997, under the leadership of Carina Agarao, CAV’s
overall direction was revisited with new focus, which is
now on the achievement of peaceful communities while
pursuing to achieve justice. |
• |
The
new set of officers for 2003-2004 headed by Gerry Villa
vows to intensify networking and partnership in
furtherance of CAV’s mandate. |

Goals: |

To
empower CAV members through continuing education on the
Criminal Justice system. |
• |
To
Initiate outreach programs to raise awareness on the
criminal justice system. |
• |
To
provide full support in legal and psychosocial aspects
to CAV members and victims of injustice. |
• |
To
Initiate livelihood programs for needy CAV members
victims & survivors. |
• |
To
monitor cases filed and status with the law enforcement
authorities to the prosecution to the trial and
appellate courts. |
• |
To
undertake jail inspection to ensure detainees and
convicted criminals do not get privileges. |
• |
To
coordinate with congress for repeal/ amendment/
enactment of laws for improvement of the delivery of
justice. |
• |
To organize
local chapter to bring CAV closer to the people with end
in view of addressing needs of marginalized sector. |
